Storytelling as Equity

Here's just a small sampling of the highlights of my recent work in advocacy and reparative storytelling.

It is integral to my mission of advocacy and activism to utilize reparative storytelling/truth-telling as a tool. In doing so I disrupt oppressive narratives that create material disparities in equity for Black trans femmes and the Black and queer communities at large.

LGBTQ+ Fireside Chat with Humin Inc.

I partnered with Humin Inc. to offer a “fireside chat” to our corporate community as a free resource in honor of 2021 Transgender Day of Visibility.

“What’s Right with Us?”- Creating Black History

This Black History Month Community Chat with the organization, Voices for Virginia’s Kids Advocacy and Engagement Manager, Chloe Edwards. In this video we talk about what the Black (and queer) community does well as a radical alternative to the question of “What’s wrong with our community?”

 

Virginia Values Coalition

I have worked for and campaigned with the Virginia Values Coalition to advocate for LGBTQIA+ laws at the state level

 

Say Her Name March

In June 2002, I helped lead the Say Her Name march in Richmond, Va to elevate the names of Black Women, lost to extreme violence and police brutality.
